HGH Therapy Guide to Healthy Aging

HGH Therapy Benefits

Studies have shows that HGH declines in production at a rate of 2-4% per year. This natural decline of HGH with age is directly associated with many of the manifestations of aging including wrinkling, gray hair, hair loss, decreased energy, sexual dysfunction, loss of muscle, increased body fat, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and overall lower life expectancy.

While many of your hormones can be replaced to alleviate the manifestations of aging, HGH reaches far beyond the scope of any of these hormones. Not only does HGH therapy prevent biological aging, it acts to significantly reverse a broad range of the manifestations of aging.

  • Lower blood pressure
  • Improve memory
  • Increase bone density
  • Increase energy
  • Remove wrinkles
  • Increase muscle mass
  • Increase red blood cells
  • Slow cardiovascular disease
  • Strengthen the immune system
  • Repair internal organs
  • Improve skin tone
  • Decrease body fat
  • Strengthen the heart
  • Extend life expectancy
  • Reverse cognitive decline
  • Increase physical strength
  • Slow cardiovascular disease
  • Strengthen the immune system

Ideally, HGH therapy should begin at about the age of 35, but HGH therapy can be beneficial at any age above 35. In fact, HGH studies have shown HGH therapy can reverse the manifestations of aging by 15 years or more. There is no other single therapy currently available that can have the impact on the aging body that HGH therapy can have.

HGH Therapy Studies

Over 100 studies have been performed on the benefits of HGH therapy. One of the earliest studies, conducted by Daniel Rudman, M.D., published in the New England Journal of Medicine in the early 1990s, suggested dramatic improvements with the use of HGH therapy.

Edmund Chein, M.D., Daniel Vogt, M.D., and Cass Terry, M.D., published a follow up to Dr. Rudman's findings on HGH therapy in the Journal of Advancement in Medicine in the fall of 1999. The percent of overall improvement recorded by the self-assessment of 202 patients treated with HGH therapy is published below.

WHAT IS HUMAN GROWTH HORMONE?

Human growth hormone (HGH) is a protein-based hormone that stimulates cell, bone, and muscle growth. The growth hormone is produced in the pituitary gland and works by stimulating the liver which responds by producing somatomedins.

HGH is necessary for proper growth in children. Although growth takes place throughout childhood, the majority of one's height is reached during puberty. When it is determined that a child is not growing as he should, synthetic or bioidentical HGH, sometimes referred to as somatropin growth hormone, can be given to treat this health condition.

HGH & Weight Management

Some individuals use HGH therapy for weight management, as it decreases cell metabolism of carbohydrates and increases fat metabolism. This is not a short-cut to weight loss; one must still follow a diet and exercise plan while receiving HGH therapy. However, this is not an approved use by either the FDA nor the established medical community.

HGH & Anti-Aging

More recently, studies have also been conducted to determine the effects of HGH therapy on the aging process. These studies are still on-going, but evidence is building to support the fact that HGH therapy can positively affect muscle mass, bone density, brain function, and other diminished health functions caused by aging.

Where does HGH come from?

HGH is produced by the pituitary gland. The ability of the pituitary gland to produce HGH declines very little with aging in most people. The production of HGH by the pituitary gland is controlled by growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH), growth hormone releasing peptide (GHRP), somatostatin, and other substances in the body. The degree to which changes in the levels of each of these substances is responsible for the decline in HGH varies from individual to individual, and is somewhat gender-dependent.

Growth Hormone Releasing Hormone

Growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH), a substance which declines with age. Increasing levels of GHRH causes the pituitary to increase its output of HGH. Sermorelin, a major analog of GHRH, has been developed by a pharmaceutical company and will be discussed later.

Growth Hormone Releasing Peptide

Growth hormone releasing peptide (GHRP) is another substance that declines with age. Increasing levels of GHRP also causes the pituitary to increase its output of HGH.

Somostatin

Somatostatin is a hormone that blocks the release of HGH by the pituitary gland. The natural production of somatostatin increases with age, and causes a corresponding decrease in HGH production by the pituitary gland.

Increasing HGH

There are many commercial products that are advertised to promote HGH release. Most of these products are simply very expensive scams. They don't contain enough HGH to have any biological effect, and all of the scientific evidence indicates that the HGH molecule is far too large to be absorbed through the membranes of the mouth. If HGH is swallowed, it is destroyed in the digestive tract before it can be absorbed into the blood stream. Also, without refrigeration, more than 90 percent of the HGH in an ordinary liquid solution is lost every 24 hours.

Additionally, the technology for getting a molecule as large as HGH to be absorbed through the membranes of the mouth or nose is a technology potentially worth billions of dollars. No company that develops such an advanced technology is going to use it on an over-the-counter product. There are only three sure ways to increase HGH.

Sermorelin

Sermorelin, an injectable GHRH product, has been produced with recombinant DNA technology. GHRH is a protein consisting of a chain of 44 amino acids. Sermorelin consists of only a 29 amino acid fragment of the GHRH molecule, but it appears to have the same effect as the full GHRH molecule (at least, for most people for a short period of time). Some studies indicate that GHRH seems to work better when used in conjunction with L-arginine. Sermorelin generally works best for those between the ages of roughly 30 to 45 years. Read our Sermorelin Therapy Guide to Healthy Aging for more information.

Growth Hormone Releasing Peptide

GHRP is a 28-amino-acid peptide that signals the body to begin releasing HGH. In several studies done in both humans and rodents, it has further been found that GHRP has a rapid effect on ghrelin, a hormone that stimulates hunger. Ghrelin would appear to be involved in excess weight gain, adiposity, and insulin resistance. This occurs during both high fat as well as high carbohydrate diets. GHRP is a ghrelin antagonist, meaning that it actually fights against grehlin in the human body, and this may be one possible mechanism by which it helps to reduce body fat. GHRP has also been shown to have this immune enhancing effect, particularly in older subjects.

Injectable HGH

The only way to enhance your HGH levels regardless of age, or other factors, is to use injectable HGH. For most people past the age of 45, this is the only HGH option that will really work well. The use of injectable HGH has been a subject shrouded in mystery for most people. The process is as simple as getting a prescription and getting the prescription filled.
